Introducing the World
The oldtimers called it Deluvia Prime. A world created to be perfect, yet marred by an evil so dark its goal was to overthrow God himself. This world—the world that then was—is familiar… yet utterly other. It has no equal. No comparison. And it is beyond our understanding.
It is not, however, beyond our imagination. Our understanding of the world that now is tells us all we need to know with certainty, and yet invites careful speculation with its little glimpses into the distant past. The more you learn about this world, the more it sounds contrived and unreal. But it’s not contrived. And it’s not unreal. And though it would be difficult to know much of this world with certainty, our guesses are not entirely the stuff of fantasy. They are grounded in the realities of scientific research, ancient cultural tradition, and biblical history.
Deluvia is a fictional world; at least in name. But its setting—the early, pre-flood Earth—is very, very real. Our stories cover a vast amount of time, about 2,000 years. Roughly speaking, from the time of the creation of the world to the time of the Great Mabbul. You might know the Mabbul as the flood of Noah’s day.
This world provides a unique backdrop to explore. It invites us into a story that is filled with color, although most view it in black and white. Through fiction we can speculate and explore what mysteries might be found in this world. And yet, we can do so while learning something real about how God’s original creation might have operated. Were physical laws the same? Did people share the same concerns we do today? Was their technology more advanced than we realize? Would their daily life appear to be more magical than ours?
The answers to those questions are surprisingly unclear. The purpose of Deluvia is not altogether different from a playground that has been intentionally designed to instruct. A child having fun and getting lost in his adventure may not be at all aware of what is truly happening to him—he is learning how to navigate the world.
As we explore Deluvia together, I invite you to suspend your disbelief and get lost in the story of the world that then was. But every once in awhile, pause. Take time to consider that this world is not purely the stuff of epic fantasy. It was epic. And it was fantastic. But it was also very, very real.
Enjoy.
